ISLAMABAD (Digital Post)— The Anti-Corruption Circle, Islamabad, of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has made further progress in its ongoing crackdown against an alleged illegal organ trafficking network involved in the extraction and sale of human kidneys. Nine culprits have been arrested, including a renowned urologist and an employee of a private hospital, both identified as key figures.
According to sources, during the investigation into the kidney trafficking scandal, an FIA team conducted a raid at a renowned private hospital in Islamabad and arrested the doctor and the hospital employee involved in performing illegal kidney removal procedures. During the operation, FIA officials also detained several individuals, including alleged kidney donors and recipients. Hospital staff suspected of involvement in the illegal network were also taken into custody and shifted to the FIA office for further interrogation.
Earlier, authorities had also arrested members of a broader gang allegedly involved in targeting vulnerable individuals, particularly from underprivileged districts of South Punjab, including Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan. The group is accused of luring poor individuals into selling their kidneys for small amounts, while allegedly selling the organs at significantly higher prices.
Officials said investigations are ongoing, and further raids are being conducted to apprehend additional members of the network. The operation has been widely appreciated in public circles, with praise directed towards FIA Islamabad Director Syed Shehzad Bukhari for the successful crackdown.
