Karachi (Digital Posts) Karachi Serious concerns have been raised over poor sanitation conditions in several wards of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where patients and attendants report facing difficulties due to inadequate cleanliness.Sources state that sanitation standards in various departments of the hospital remain unsatisfactory. Wards Number 11, 12, 5, 6, and 7 have reportedly been affected by weak maintenance arrangements. The presence of flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, and even stray cats has also been observed in some areas, prompting complaints from patients and their families.
Despite the presence of a contracted cleaning workforce, regular and systematic cleaning is reportedly missing in several wards. Sources allege that sanitation supervisors mostly focus on maintaining areas used by the administration while other wards and departments remain neglected. It has also been reported that even though the hospital employs government staff, private cleaning workers, and personnel from a non government organization, sanitation conditions in the morning remain unsatisfactory in the gynecology ward, emergency department, and other sections. Piles of garbage have also been noticed near the main entrance of the hospital. Sources further claim that stray cats have been seen in certain locations and the sanitary supervisor is often absent from the office. Patients and attendants have urged Executive Director Prof Dr Khalid Sher, Joint Executive Director Dr Muhammad Salman, and Deputy Director Dr Adeel Samoon to take immediate notice, visit the wards, and implement effective measures to ensure a clean and healthy environment for patients.
