Islamabad, March 12 (Digital Post): Social worker, columnist, and Chairperson of Sindhu Social Welfare Trust, Dr. Afshan Malik, said that serving humanity is the greatest form of worship and a social responsibility. Supporting deserving and orphan children is a great duty through which not only can the lives of the needy be made easier, but a person can also improve their hereafter.

While addressing an Iftar dinner held at Pakistan Sweet Home, she said that whatever status, resources, and respect Allah Almighty has given to a person are in fact a trust, and their real purpose is to help the needy and underprivileged segments of society. She thanked the guests who attended the event and said that all segments of society should actively participate in such welfare activities.

Dr. Afshan Malik said that in this journey of social service, the role of those individuals is highly commendable who dedicate their lives and resources for the welfare of humanity. Appreciating the services of Zamurrad Khan, she said that he is working for the support and welfare of thousands of orphan children, which is certainly a great and difficult task. She said that even bearing the responsibility of a few members of one family can be difficult, but supporting such a large number of children is an extraordinary service that deserves appreciation.

She mentioned her personal life experiences and said that after the death of her father at a young age, she closely faced the pain and difficulties of being an orphan. Later, more tragedies occurred in the family, and after the deaths of her three young brothers, the responsibility of supporting their children arose. These circumstances made her realize how important it is to help orphan children and helpless individuals.

Dr. Afshan Malik said that Allah Almighty showed her the path of social service, and she is engaged in welfare activities with the same mission. She said that people should include the needy in their happiness because the smiles that appear on the faces of orphan and underprivileged children bring true peace to the heart. She added that sincerity should be present in good deeds and welfare work should only be done for the sake of Allah’s pleasure.

Referring to a sermon she heard during Hajj, she said that if good deeds are done for show, they are wasted, therefore the intention behind every action should be pure.

She said that in the present era, compassion and mutual connections in society are decreasing, and people are becoming unaware of each other’s problems and difficulties. Modern lifestyles and busy routines have increased distances between people, due to which social harmony and mutual sympathy are being affected.

Dr. Afshan Malik said that Islam teaches the service of humanity and helping the needy, and feeding a hungry person, helping someone in distress, or bringing a smile to someone’s face is also a form of charity. She said that promoting humanity, compassion, and empathy in society is the need of the time.

She expressed her determination that she will continue her efforts for the welfare of orphan and deserving children in the future as well and invited philanthropists of society to actively participate in this noble cause.
