Islamabad (Abbas Baig Mirza) NADRA has blocked 195,000 computerized identity cards in three years. The rate of card blocking was highest in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the details, the highest number of 72,703 identity cards were blocked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 49,666 in Sindh, 29,852 in Punjab and 34,990 in Balochistan. 5,731 identity cards were blocked in the federal capital Islamabad, while 1,410 in Azad Kashmir and 758 identity cards were taken action in Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the Ministry of Interior, 130,885 identity cards were blocked under Section 18, while action was taken against 64,225 identity cards on court orders. More than 46,000 blocked identity cards have also been restored in the last three years. According to officials, more than 148,000 identity cards are still blocked and inquiries are underway regarding them. NADRA maintains that these ID cards were blocked due to providing incorrect information and non-pursuance of cases.
