Islamabad (Digital Post) The opposition chamber welcomes the DGTO’s SOPs for chamber elections. The Ministry of Commerce should grant the right to vote only to the member, not to the nominated member. President Founder Democrats, Syed Nadeem Mansoor.

Syed Nadeem Mansoor, Corporate Member of Islamabad Chamber, President of the Founder Democrat Group, and a member playing the role of Opposition Leader, said that we thank the DGTO for implementing many of the points from our application, which will bring transparency to the chamber members and the process. The election process, which had not changed for forty years and everyone was following the same old pattern, has now, due to our efforts, compelled the institutions to think, and gradually it will improve.

Chairman of the Founder Democrats, Air Commodore (R) Nadeem Sherwani, stated that this time the membership documents of many old members who come and then reappear in the voter list after two elections should be checked to ensure that they are not proxy voters. Why are they voters at one time and not at another? There are approximately more than 200 such suspicious votes in this voter list. This can only be determined through an audit, but our request is not being heard. Furthermore, our Founder Democrats Group has also submitted an application to the chamber.

Syed Nadeem Mansoor stated that under the Election of Pakistan, only the person who is a member can cast a vote. However, the chamber gives voting rights to a nominated person, who could even be their employee, a hotel bearer, or a security guard. We do not even come to know about it. This practice should be banned from this election onward.

Furthermore, the Election Commission is also their own, which is already against us. Last time they removed me from the election, but the DGTO rejected their writ. Finally, under the SRO, this election should not be held in the chamber because they exercise monopoly here. They bring members by giving them protocol, and when we ask that member what his membership number is, they start quarrelling. We should be allowed to hold the election in a Community Hall or Convention Centre, where they should sit outside in the heat because, in the chamber, we all sit outside under tents while they occupy the President’s air-conditioned rooms as if they own them.
