The Middle East is once again passing through a critical phase where war, political tensions, humanitarian crises, and the interests of global powers have posed serious threats to peace and stability in the region. In such circumstances, the organization of an international seminar by DHA Suffa University Karachi on the topic “The Ongoing Crisis in the Middle East and Pakistan’s Role in Promoting Peace and Diplomacy” is not only timely but also a highly commendable initiative. The seminar reflects that Pakistan’s academic institutions are not limited to education only but are also playing an important role in providing intellectual guidance on national and international issues.
The important seminar was organized by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), where prominent diplomats, academics, intellectuals, and students participated. Speakers highlighted the current situation in the Middle East, its regional and global impacts, and the importance of diplomacy for establishing peace. The most important aspect of the seminar was that all speakers considered dialogue, negotiations, and mutual respect as the only effective ways to resolve conflicts.
Consul General of Malaysia Herman Hardy Nata Ahmad, in his address, emphasized the need for international cooperation and diplomatic relations to promote global peace. He stated that in the current era, conflicts should be resolved through wise diplomacy and continuous dialogue instead of the use of force. His views highlighted the fact that peace is not only about relations between states but is also a basic requirement for public prosperity and development.
The address by Dr. Saeed Talebi Nia, Director General of the Cultural Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Karachi, was of special importance. He explained Iran’s perspective and appreciated Pakistan’s positive and constructive role. He said that Iran values the diplomatic efforts made by the Government of Pakistan and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for regional peace, stability, and reducing tensions. Dr. Saeed Talebi Nia also emphasized that the Iranian people will never forget the solidarity and support shown by the Pakistani nation. He stated that the goodwill, affection, and brotherhood demonstrated by the Pakistani people during difficult times further strengthened the historic, religious, and cultural ties between the two countries.
Former Dean of the University of Karachi, Professor Dr. Shaista Tabassum, presented a detailed analysis of the political, social, and humanitarian aspects of the Middle East crisis. She pointed out that ordinary citizens, women, and children suffer the most from wars and conflicts. She urged the international community to promote justice, international law, and diplomatic solutions instead of the use of force to pave the way for lasting peace.
Professor Dr. Ali Ehsan, in his detailed address, highlighted the history of the Middle East, the role of global powers, and the causes behind the current crisis. He appreciated Pakistan’s balanced foreign policy and said that Pakistan has always preferred dialogue and diplomacy over confrontation. According to him, this balanced and responsible approach enables Pakistan to play an effective and reliable diplomatic role in the region.
The seminar began with the welcome address by Vice Chancellor Brigadier (Retd.) Professor Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas, who set the intellectual direction of the discussion. He highlighted the importance of peace, diplomacy, and the responsibilities of educational institutions in the current global environment. He stressed that universities should continue to play their role in promoting serious academic discussions on national and global issues. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and congratulated the speakers, participants, and organizers.
The seminar clearly demonstrated that Pakistan continues to play an important role in promoting peace, stability, and diplomacy in the region. During recent regional crises, Pakistan’s balanced, responsible, and farsighted approach has also been appreciated internationally. Iran’s recognition of Pakistan’s leadership, especially Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the efforts of the Government of Pakistan, reflects that Pakistan is viewed as a serious and peace-oriented state.
DHA Suffa University and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences deserve appreciation for organizing this successful and meaningful seminar. Such academic forums not only develop the thinking of students and researchers but also promote positive and constructive discussions at the national level. At a time when the world needs peace instead of wars, such seminars become symbols of hope, wisdom, and diplomacy.
Pakistan’s foreign policy has always been based on peace, mutual respect, and constructive relations. This message also emerged from the seminar that the path to lasting peace does not come through power but through dialogue, wisdom, and diplomacy.
