Islamabad (Digital Post) Nawabshah Report by Talib Hussain Khanzada: Local government system in Nawabshah paralyzed, public frustration at its peak, Pakistan Peoples Party facing a major political challenge ahead of upcoming elections.

Despite presidential directives, the attitude of local leadership remains unchanged. Residents of Old Nawabshah and H.M. Khawaja Town feel abandoned. The lack of basic facilities and overflowing open sewers continue to expose the poor performance of the administration.

In District Shaheed Benazirabad, considered one of the strongest strongholds of the Pakistan Peoples Party, the performance of local elected representatives has become a serious threat to the party’s reputation. Recently, President Asif Ali Zardari had clearly directed representatives to engage with the public and ensure the prompt resolution of their problems, but according to reports from the ground, these instructions have seen virtually no implementation.

According to residents, promises to provide basic civic facilities such as water supply, street lights, road repairs, sanitation services, and the removal of encroachments have proven to be nothing more than an illusion. The severity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that the constituencies of the city’s mayor, deputy mayor, and the chairmen of H.M. Khawaja and Old Nawabshah Town themselves have become centers of public complaints and unresolved issues. It is alleged that authority and funds have effectively been handed over to subordinate staff, while elected representatives remain disconnected from the public.

Political observers believe that if the party’s top leadership does not immediately take notice of the negligence, inactivity, and anti-public attitude of its local leadership, the public response in the next elections could be extremely harsh, potentially causing irreparable damage to the party’s traditional vote bank.
