ISLAMABAD (Digital Posts) Rawat Police have arrested a proclaimed offender who shot and killed his deceased brother’s former wife and seriously injured his minor niece. The accused, Parvez, had opened fire over a dispute regarding a house and land, brutally killing the woman and seriously injuring the minor niece. A case was registered against the accused Parvez Akhtar in May last year at Police Station Rawat on the complaint of the deceased Sanjeeda’s second husband, Azmat son of Akram. After the incident, the accused Parvez had fled. Rawat Police have also taken a close associate of the accused into custody for further investigation of the case.
According to the contents of the FIR, the complainant Azmat Mahmood son of Akram stated that his marriage was solemnized with Sanjeeda Rehman daughter of Abdul Rehman. This was Sanjeeda Rehman’s second marriage; her first husband, Zaheer, had died three years ago. From her first marriage, the deceased Sanjeeda had three daughters and one son; two daughters are married, while eleven-year-old Atif Zaheer Babar and fifteen-year-old Sameeka Zaheer reside with the complainant.
The residential house of Sanjeeda Rehman’s first husband Zaheer is also located inside the village, and for cleaning and maintenance purposes the complainant’s wife would often go there. On the day of the incident, the complainant went to work as usual. When he returned in the evening, his mother informed him that Sanjeeda Rehman had gone with her son Atif and daughter Sameeka to clean her old house. Upon this, he headed towards them because his wife’s former brother-in-law, namely Parvez Akhtar son of Mohabbat Khan, was trying to seize the house and land that had fallen to Sanjeeda Rehman from her former husband, a matter which is pending before the court. The accused would frequently beat and threaten his wife, and both the complainant and local elders had also restrained Parvez Akhtar from doing so.
When the complainant reached the street, he heard noise and screams. Nearby, Faisal Shehzad son of Ameer Dad was standing on the roof of his double-storey house watching. As soon as the complainant entered the house, he saw Parvez Akhtar armed with a pistol, Abdul Ghafoor son of Abdul Khaliq armed with a rifle, Aftab son of Abdul Ghafoor, and Nauman son of Muhammad Basharat assaulting the deceased Sanjeeda Rehman. Nauman was dragging the complainant’s wife, Aftab was punching and kicking her, while Abdul Ghafoor was striking her with the butt of the rifle. Nearby, 11-year-old Sameeka Zaheer and Atif Zaheer were standing and crying.
Upon the intervention of the complainant and Faisal Shehzad, Abdul Ghafoor and Aftab caught hold of the complainant. Parvez Akhtar fired direct shots at Sanjeeda with the pistol, which struck her left arm and right hand. When Sameeka Zaheer moved forward towards her mother, Parvez Akhtar also fired directly at her, hitting her left arm and hand. Atif, terrified, ran out of the house crying.
The complainant called out to his wife to run and save her life. Despite being injured, she ran towards the kitchen. Meanwhile, Parvez chased her, loaded a second magazine into the pistol, and upon reaching near the kitchen fired shots one after another, which hit Sanjeeda on various parts of her body, causing her to sustain severe injuries and succumb to them. The entire incident was witnessed by the complainant and Faisal Shehzad. Upon their cries and commotion, other residents of the neighborhood also gathered, after which the accused fled the scene.
The deceased was eight months pregnant. She was mercilessly tortured and killed inside her house over a house and land dispute despite attempts at reconciliation. Meanwhile, the complainant’s stepdaughter Sameeka daughter of Zaheer was seriously injured after being shot directly. The investigation of the case has been assigned to Inspector Feroz.
