Karachi(Report pirbux Noonari)Karachi a crucial meeting took place between the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh, represented Chairman Mehboob Noonari and Vice Chairman Mehran Shar, and YDA JPMC, represented President Amar Danish, General Secretary Zulfikar Soomro, and Spokesperson Muhammad Ali. The purpose of the meeting was to address the ongoing situation at Jinnah Hospital, particularly the faculty shortage.
Jinnah Hospital, along with Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), is one of the key medical institutions in Sindh. Despite being a federal institution, JPMC is currently being managed the Sindh government, which oversees its budget and operations. Both the federal employees of JPMC and the Sindh government acknowledge this arrangement.
The primary concern discussed was the growing shortage of doctors at JPMC. The meeting proposed that the solution should come from the formation of a new commission dedicated to hiring new faculty members, rather than assigning JSMU employees to JPMC. The representatives emphasized that maintaining the integrity of institutions like JPMC is vital for their success and growth, and compromising that integrity by merging roles between JSMU and JPMC would be detrimental.
Both the YDA Sindh and the Doctors Association agreed on the importance of respecting the seniority of JSMU employees, ensuring they receive proper opportunities in line with their affiliations. JPMC’s faculty positions should be filled independently, through a new commission, to prevent any conflict of interest and ensure that both institutions maintain their autonomy and dignity.
YDA Sindh also rejected the views of a self-proclaimed YDA faction that lacks genuine affiliation with the doctor’s organization, describing it as self-interested. YDA Sindh plans to further clarify its stance with an upcoming press conference, emphasizing that JSMU and JPMC are separate entities. To preserve both institutions’ integrity and independence, YDA Sindh will call on the Sindh government to ensure that recruitment for both institutions is based solely on merit. This, they believe, will prevent any conflicts of interest and allow both institutions to grow and thrive independently.
