Karachi (Digital Post) Appointment of Lala Rahim as Town Chairman Despite Criminal Allegations

Share

This report addresses the appointment of Lala Rahim as the Town Chairman of TMC Sohrab Goth, despite facing serious criminal charges, including kidnapping for ransom and attempted murder. The situation raises significant concerns about governance, transparency, and the misuse of public resources.

Lala Rahim is accused of crimes such as kidnapping for ransom, attempted murder, and other serious offenses. Six FIRs have been registered against him in various police stations, including Sarjani Town (FIR No. 524/20), Super Highway (FIR Nos. 590/21 and 100/2024), and others in Sohrab Goth.

The town administration under Lala Rahim has been involved in numerous irregularities, such as the illegal issuance of quotations and violations of SEPA regulations. OZT funds have reportedly been misused, with significant payments being made to favored companies. Lala Rahim’s private company is also accused of manipulating tendering processes to secure illegal benefits.

There are strong allegations of corruption and bribery. Lala Rahim has allegedly extorted millions from the builder mafia and has failed to uphold the integrity of TMC Sohrab Goth. Despite the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board handling garbage collection, unauthorized charges are reportedly being levied by the town administration. These activities have severely damaged the institution’s reputation, with favoritism and corrupt practices becoming widespread.

To address this situation, immediate action is required. Lala Rahim should be suspended from his position as Town Chairman, and a transparent investigation into his activities and financial dealings must be initiated. All inquiries should be conducted under the supervision of an independent judicial body to prevent bias or interference.

Reforms are necessary to prevent such situations in the future. Stricter screening processes for public officeholders should be implemented, along with a comprehensive audit of TMC Sohrab Goth’s financial transactions and administrative practices. Those involved in illegal activities, including misuse of public funds, must be prosecuted, and public offices should be held only by individuals with integrity and clean records.

The appointment of an individual with such serious criminal allegations to a key administrative position undermines the rule of law and public trust. Swift and decisive action is essential to restore the integrity of TMC Sohrab Goth and ensure accountability. Without intervention, such practices will continue to erode institutional credibility and public confidence.
