Islamabad (Digital Post) Residents of Jinnah Garden protested outside the office of the Jinnah Garden Administrator against excessive electricity bills, refusing to pay the bills until correct bills are issued.

Residents of Jinnah Garden Islamabad have strongly protested outside the Jinnah Garden Administrator’s office against excessive and allegedly incorrect electricity bills, and clearly stated that until correct bills are issued to them, they will not pay the current bills. Residents of the area say that even during the winter season, their electricity bills have been increased to an unusual extent, which has badly affected the household budgets of the middle class.

According to the protesters, electricity bills for many houses in Jinnah Garden have been issued under commercial rates, even though the area is primarily residential. Due to this incorrect classification, consumers have been burdened with thousands of rupees in additional charges. Residents say that applying commercial tariffs despite domestic usage is completely unfair and should be immediately withdrawn.

The protesting residents stated that electricity usage is relatively lower during winter, yet despite this, their bills have been received much higher compared to previous months. They said that some households received double bills and some even more than that, causing serious concern and anger in the area.

The protesters demanded that the Jinnah Garden administration and other relevant authorities immediately take notice of the matter, conduct a fresh review of the electricity bills, and remove the wrongly imposed commercial rates so that correct bills may be issued according to domestic tariffs. They said that if their demands are not accepted, the scope of the protest will be expanded further.

Residents of the area appealed to the Jinnah Garden Administrator, the government, and the relevant electricity supply institutions to immediately resolve this issue while considering public difficulties. They said that in the current period of inflation, people are already facing severe financial pressure, and such excessive electricity bills are adding further to their difficulties.

Furthermore, residents said that on one hand they have allegedly been sent extremely high electricity bills, while on the other hand notices have also been sent with the bills warning that electricity will be disconnected if payment is not made by the due date. It is clearly written on the bills that if payment is not made by the due date, electricity supply will be disconnected, and later an additional charge of three thousand rupees will be collected from consumers for restoration of electricity.

Residents say that on one side unusually high bills are being sent, and on the other side threats of electricity disconnection in case of non-payment are being given, which is a serious injustice to citizens. Residents have warned the Jinnah Garden administration that if immediate correction of bills, elimination of commercial rates, and practical relief measures for the public are not taken, they will be compelled to adopt stronger collective protest measures.
