Islamabad (Digital Posts): A writ petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court challenging the appointment of Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Tourism, who was appointed by Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on July 9, 2025. The petitioner argues against the appointment of Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Tourism, stating that under the Constitution, the Majlis-e-Shura (Parliament) and the federal government have legislative and administrative competence over subjects like “Tourism.” Similarly, in the Federal Legislative List (FLL), there is no subject allocated to the federal government regarding tourism. It is also claimed that this constitutes a violation of the Constitution and is fraudulent.

The petitioner further stated that, according to the Constitution as well as the Rules of Business 1973, there is no provision for the appointment of coordinators. The petitioner also alleged that Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Tourism, is believed to meet with Israeli officials, whereas the Government of Pakistan has not yet recognized Israel.

The petitioner has requested that Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan be immediately restrained from performing his official duties and functions as the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Tourism. The matter is expected to be heard by a single bench of the Islamabad High Court. Dr. G.M. Chaudhry, Advocate, will represent the petitioner in the Federal Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
