Abbottabad/ Islamabad/Mansehra – April 2025 (Digital Post):In a shocking development, retired SP of Islamabad Police, Syed Arif Hussain Shah, his son Syed Wasif Shah, and his brother-in-law have been implicated in the gruesome abduction and murder of 30-year-old Senate employee Hamza, a resident of Islamabad with roots in Nathiagali.
Hamza, who went missing on March 15 after visiting Shah’s ancestral home in Khaki village (Mansehra), was found buried in a mountainous area following a complex investigation by Islamabad Police. The breakthrough came when Shah’s brother-in-law confessed to the murder during interrogation, revealing the chilling details of the crime.
According to sources, Hamza was lured to Khaki under the pretext of resolving an ongoing financial dispute involving nearly Rs. 8 million. Once there, he was allegedly killed by the retired police officer, his son, and accomplices. His body was secretly buried in a remote area. The killers attempted to mislead authorities by throwing Hamza’s active mobile phones near the G-10 Metro Station in Islamabad to create a false trail suggesting his return to the capital.
Despite significant resistance from local Mansehra police and some villagers, Islamabad Police, using dogs and advanced forensic techniques, recovered the body. The investigation faced repeated hurdles due to non-cooperation from the local police, raising concerns about possible protection of the accused by influential elements.
It’s worth noting that Arif Hussain Shah, during his police service as SP Traffic, was also named in a murder case involving a female police officer from Mansehra. Even after being forcibly retired from service, Shah allegedly continued his involvement in criminal activities.
The current arrest has cast a dark shadow over the Islamabad Police, especially as some officers were initially hesitant to take action due to Shah’s former status. However, a few committed officials within the force continued their efforts, leading to the eventual confession and the recovery of the body.
Hamza’s family, accompanied by Islamabad Police, remains in Mansehra as they seek justice and the formal handover of the body. Security concerns are high, with reports of local hostility and insufficient support from Mansehra Police. The role of the newly appointed DIG Hazara, Nasir Mehmood Satti — himself a former Islamabad Police officer — will be pivotal in determining whether local law enforcement aligns with justice or continues to obstruct the investigation.
