Islamabad – 27 October 2026 \u2014 (Digital Posts) : The Ambassador of Austria in Pakistan, Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera, celebrated Austrian National Day with a reception in Islamabad, bringing together senior government officials, parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic corps, business representatives, and friends of Austria to commemorate Austria\u2019s national day and reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Austria and Pakistan. The reception was attended by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik as Guest of Honour. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, the Austrian Ambassador to Pakistan highlighted the enduring partnership between the two countries, which have maintained friendly diplomatic relations for more than 72 years. The Ambassador underscored the importance of mutual respect, dialogue, and cooperation in strengthening bilateral ties and expanding collaboration across political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people domains.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Ambassador highlighted economic cooperation as a key priority, building on Austria\u2019s established presence in Pakistan in sectors including hydropower, green energy, railway technology, medical devices, project management, and food and beverages.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Wolfgang also highlighted the significance of the official visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Vienna in February 2026, at the invitation of Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker. During the visit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation, while underscoring their shared support for multilateralism and the United Nations system.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Commemorating Austria\u2019s decision to adopt permanent neutrality in 1955, the Ambassador emphasized that military neutrality does not mean political indifference. Austria remains committed to international law, human rights, and the principle that the rule of law must prevail in international affairs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Ambassador welcomed Austria\u2019s election on 3 June 2026 to serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027\u20132029 term, following a 15-year campaign under the motto \u201cPartnership \u2013 Dialogue \u2013 Trust.\u201d The Ambassador expressed sincere gratitude to all countries for its support of Austria\u2019s successful candidacy.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Recognizing the wider global challenges posed by ongoing conflicts, rising energy and raw-material prices, and pressures on food affordability, the Ambassador commended Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue and mediation, including through the Islamabad Talks and engagement with capitals across the region. The development of the Malam Jabba ski resort, with considerable Austrian financial and logistical assistance, was cited as a tangible example of bilateral cooperation and friendship.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Concluding the address, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Embassy\u2019s commitment to strengthening existing partnerships and building new relationships between Austria and Pakistan.
