Rawalpindi (Digital Post) | By Sufi Abid Chishti Nizami Niazi <\/strong>People Sweating, Leadership in Warm Coats and Scarves Rawalpindi, one of Pakistan\u2019s most important cities, is currently facing severe public challenges. Unfortunately, its residents continue to struggle with shortages of water, electricity and gas, unemployment, inflation, inadequate healthcare facilities, and many other basic issues of daily life. However, instead of focusing on lasting solutions to these problems, the ruling class appears to remain largely confined to high-profile development projects.<\/p>\n

Much of the government’s attention appears to be centered on roads, bridges, and other construction projects. At the same time, the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) also appears divided by internal differences and various factions, which is being reflected in public engagement and government performance. The people need leaders who remain among them, understand their hardships, and address their concerns.<\/p>\n

One of the most concerning aspects is that the public leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Rawalpindi appears largely silent. Party workers knock on doors with public grievances and their own concerns but often receive little effective guidance or response. Those workers who stood by the party through years of political struggle now feel neglected. In their view, the party should respect and encourage those loyal workers who remained committed during difficult times.<\/p>\n

Today, the purchasing power of the average citizen has been severely affected. The prices of vegetables, meat, flour, sugar, medicines, and other essential commodities have moved beyond the reach of many families. Unemployment has left many young people disheartened, while the condition of public hospitals is also far from satisfactory. Access to healthcare services and essential medicines is becoming an increasingly serious issue. Elected representatives should not limit themselves to ceremonial events but should also be present among the public during periods of intense heat, humidity, and hardship. They should visit neighborhoods, markets, public hospitals, police stations, courts, and public gatherings to witness people’s problems firsthand.<\/p>\n

The public also believes that some influential figures have confined themselves to ministerial offices and official privileges. When ordinary citizens are struggling with electricity shortages, water scarcity, and unemployment in extreme heat, while the ruling class appears occupied in air-conditioned offices, official vehicles, and protocol, the gap between the public and its leadership naturally widens. Citizens want their representatives to be seen not only at formal ceremonies but also in their neighborhoods, markets, and communities, sharing in their difficulties and understanding the realities on the ground.<\/p>\n

A growing perception among the people of Rawalpindi is that the local leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) is becoming increasingly disconnected from the public. Citizens question why, when ordinary people are enduring power outages, inflation, and shortages of basic facilities in sweltering weather, some political leaders are seen wearing warm checkered coats, blazers, and scarves while sitting in air-conditioned offices and vehicles, claiming to represent the people. In the public’s view, this image symbolically reflects the widening gap between political leadership and ordinary citizens.<\/p>\n

People believe that the true identity of leadership is not defined by clothing, protocol, or official privileges, but by remaining among the people, sharing in their hardships, and working practically to resolve their problems. If political leaders restrict themselves to ceremonial functions, photographs, and symbolic activities while citizens continue to struggle with water, electricity, gas, unemployment, inflation, and access to justice, then a decline in public trust becomes inevitable. Today, there is a need for Rawalpindi’s leadership to leave air-conditioned offices and visit streets, neighborhoods, markets, and ordinary citizens, listen to their concerns, and play a practical role in resolving them, because the public needs service and results more than slogans.<\/p>\n

There is also a need to bring forward individuals within the party who remain connected with the people, understand their problems, and possess a genuine spirit of public service. Titles, protocol, expensive clothing, or symbolic politics alone cannot restore public confidence. The demand of the time is to move beyond symbolic politics and give priority to meaningful public service.<\/p>\n

The current situation requires serious attention from the Government of Pakistan, particularly the senior leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). Former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif should reassess the organizational and public situation in Rawalpindi. If the voices of party workers continue to be ignored, ground realities remain overlooked, and public engagement weakens further, political consequences may follow. The party needs to promote individuals who remain among the people, understand their concerns, and are committed to practical public service. Official positions, protocol, expensive attire, and symbolic politics alone cannot restore public trust. The need of the hour is to prioritize genuine public service over appearances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
