Islamabad (Digital Post):<\/strong> Aamir Sarfaraz, alias Aamir Tamba, the accused nominated in the 2013 prison attack on Indian spy Sarabjit Singh, has passed away. Aamir Tamba had already been acquitted by the court in this high-profile case. Following his acquittal, unidentified assailants allegedly entered his home and attempted to kill him in 2024.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Aamir Sarfaraz alias Aamir Tamba had been unwell for some time. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to a hospital, where he passed away during treatment.<\/p>\n

Aamir Sarfaraz alias Aamir Tamba was one of the two individuals accused of attacking Indian spy Sarabjit Singh in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail<\/strong> in 2013.<\/p>\n

Indian spy Sarabjit Singh was arrested in 1990 after crossing the Pakistani border. He was accused of carrying out bomb blasts in Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad<\/strong>, in which 14 Pakistani citizens were killed.<\/p>\n

Sarabjit Singh initially claimed to be a farmer and maintained that he had crossed the Pakistani border by mistake. Later, he confessed to his crime.<\/p>\n

Following court proceedings, Pakistani courts sentenced him to death in 1991, a verdict that was also upheld by the Supreme Court. He remained imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail for more than two decades. During this period, Sarabjit Singh submitted several mercy petitions, all of which were rejected.<\/p>\n

The attack on Sarabjit Singh took place on April 26, 2013<\/strong>, inside Lahore’s Central Jail Kot Lakhpat. According to the jail administration, when Sarabjit Singh was brought out of his cell for his routine walk, two inmates attacked him.<\/p>\n

As a result of the attack, Sarabjit Singh sustained severe head injuries and was shifted to Jinnah Hospital Lahore<\/strong> in critical condition. He remained on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for several days but succumbed to his injuries on May 2, 2013<\/strong>. His body was later handed over to India.<\/p>\n

Following the attack, a murder case was registered against Aamir Tamba<\/strong> and Mudassar Munir<\/strong>. In their initial statements, the attackers claimed that they had carried out the attack out of patriotism because Sarabjit Singh was the mastermind behind bomb blasts in Pakistan in which several civilians had been killed.<\/p>\n

However, in December 2018<\/strong>, the Lahore Sessions Court acquitted both Aamir Tamba and Mudassar Munir after all prosecution witnesses turned hostile and due to lack of evidence.<\/p>\n

Later, in April 2024<\/strong>, the case once again attracted attention when unidentified motorcycle riders entered Aamir Sarfaraz alias Aamir Tamba’s residence in Lahore’s Islam Pura<\/strong> area, opened fire on him, and fled. He was critically injured in the attack and was shifted to a hospital.<\/p>\n

Following the incident, Aamir Tamba’s brother, Junaid Sarfaraz<\/strong>, stated in the registered FIR that two attackers entered the house and shot Aamir three times. According to the FIR, one attacker was wearing a helmet while the other had covered his face with a mask.<\/p>\n

On April 15, 2024<\/strong>, Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister stated during a press conference that all available evidence regarding the attack on Aamir Tamba pointed directly towards India’s involvement.<\/p>\n

A film has also been produced in India based on Sarabjit Singh and the events surrounding his death. In the film, he is portrayed as an ordinary farmer who accidentally crossed the border. However, as has often been the case, the film ignores the documented evidence of his involvement in bomb blasts in Pakistan, as well as the judicial findings and other established facts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
